Mike has mediated many cases, about half to settlement. He has served as chair, emergency, wing and sole arbitrator for groups such as LCIA, CPR, and AAA. He has rendered awards in cases governed by the FAA and English Arbitration Act. He is an arbitrator, mediator and professor after 30 years as a full time commercial litigator. Then for seven years he was Deputy General Counsel of a major financial services company with global responsibility for litigation, employment, IP and other areas. Mike is a Fellow of CIArb, and was Secretary of the NY Branch. Mike is also on AAA, CPR and WIPO panels of both arbitrators and mediators. He is a member of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center. Mike is a CEDR Accredited Mediator, He earlier completed the American Arbitration Association's training for mediators. He is on the SDNY, DNJ Panels and NYS of mediators. Mike is a member of bar related groups concerned with arbitration and mediation in New York. Mike teaches a course at Hofstra Law School in the Autumn on the Law and Role of In House Counsel.
Mike's in-house responsibilities were broad based, both geographically and in areas of law. From 2008-12 he spent about 1/3 of each year in London, and managed litigation, arbitration, mediation, employment and other matters in the U.K., France, Brazil, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Japan and several other countries. In-house litigators, employment and patent lawyers reported to him. As one of three senior global lawyers he had broad based engagement with contract, deal, tax, securities, compliance, general IP and other in-house lawyers. He led the lawyering for an acquisition and negotiated and reviewed many contracts with suppliers and customers
